I'm using a computer with windows XP SP-2 and I connect to the internet using
a dial-up modem. Recently, every time I connect to the internet, the taskbar (the blue bar located in the lower section of the screen) freezes. It can last 10 seconds or a minute, sometimes I have to restart the computer. I can't open the start menu or open the messenger, for example, because the bar does not respond. I also tried pressing control+alt+delete to open the task manager but ir never opens. If someone knows the solution to this problem please help me. Thank you. |

This sounds a great deal like a malware problem. You could have a lot of work ahead of you, so start with my article. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/dealing-with-malware-adware-spyware.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...e-spyware.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. Mailware is certainly possible, but if you're usign a USB modem, the drivers
for these are notorious for causing crashes. |

That's one of the reasons why I preach against USB based networking devices. Ethernet drivers are native to Windows Networking, and are more reliable. But the OP mentioned neither USB nor crashing. He mentioned modem and system freezes, which makes it possible that the system is being taken over by malware which is simply monopolising the CPU, for one reason or another. If he's lucky, it could be a driver issue, as you suggest. Why don't you provide some actual information on USB modems, and crashes, and give the OP something to work from? -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. Open up the Task Manager first, looking at the Processes. Then
connect. When I used Zone Alarm a long time ago, I saw this problem with vsmon.exe. I've been checking my computer with several antivirus and get a message that
it's infected with trojan-clicker.win32.delf.dm. With other antivirus, the same virus is detected but this time under the name of adclicker-dk. I've been trying to find information about the virus with both names but I can't find useful information. Perhaps the virus is recent? and this virus could be the cause of the crashes? On the other hand, I don't have a USB modem. Thanks in advance. -- Message posted via http://www.windowskb.com |
