Default Setting up permissions in Windows XP pro

I'm sharing a data folder in Windows XP and I wanted to make users on other
computers input a password to access the folder. With Windows 2000 I was
able to input permissions and passwords for users\user groups when I shared
the folder. In XP, once I share the folder it seems like everyone in the
workgroup can access the folder on my computer.

With Windows XP I think you can only setup users as administrators or
limited users and you do not get an option to enter a password on the shared
folder like you do with permissions\user groups.

From what I can see, you need to have a domain in order to setup user groups
and permissions and I do not think you can create a domain in XP like you can
with Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003.

Is there anyway for me to require others to input a password to access a
shared folder on my computer?

Thank you Ron Lowe and Malke for your prior replies. Since my last question
was not clear due to the fact that I added it to a prior post, I reposted the
question in a seperate post.

Paul

Paul,

Do you have XP Home or Pro? With XP Pro and Simple File Sharing disabled, you
can have the same as with Windows 2000. With XP Home, you're stuck with Simple
File Sharing.

Thank you very much. I disabled simple file sharing and that is exactly what
I was looking for.
