OK, I've got a Microsoft wireless base station (MN-700 - it was gift).
I have a laptop and a desktop connected and they can both access the
internet and browse fine.
Both have XP Pro and are up-to-date with "Windows Update"
There are no firewalls running - XP or 3rd party.
IPCONFIG /all both have same subnet mask, default gateway, dhcp server,
dns server.
I've disable all other network devices and they are both running just
TCPIP and QoS.
I've gone through every TCPIP setting and every setting on the MN-700
management tool.

I can't get these two devices to ping each other.

Almost all of the seaches I have done seem to point to firewalls, let
me stress that I do not have any firewalls running. I have even ended
processes of everything that didn't seem like an XP process.

Are you trying to ping by name or IP address? Try adding Client for
Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing.

Thanks for the reply. I was pinging by IP address only, but now I have
tried by computer name. Ping resolves the name of the computer I'm
pinging "Pinging MyDell [192.168.2.101] with 32...." so I guess DNS on
my router is working.

Per your response I have tried adding file and printer sharing and
Microsoft networks and I have tried the "net.." commands and mapping a
drive with no luck. I'm also in the same workgroup.

I've added my XBOX to the net and the router shows the IP address in
the DHCP list so I tried pinging it from my laptop and desktop, but
nothing. I was hoping one of them was setup wrong so at least I could
narrow it down to one. BUT, I'm not for if the XBOX blocks ICMP.

I'm beginning to think the MN-700 is blocking somehow, but I can't find
any settings in the management tool.

OK, I'm a newb. I officially wasted space on the net. SMC.exe was
running on my desktop, but the icon wasn't in the tray. I though SMC
was a windows process but it's Sygate firewall. Yes, it was a firewall
problem.

Sorry in advance for anyone that reads this in the future. Is that
possible? Hmm, now thinking about this, this message will probably
remain in the usenet archives for decades? I wonder how many people
will read it and waste a minute or 2 of thier life. Just a guess but
maybe 1,000 a year read it multiplied by 50 years multiplied by 2
minutes so this probably costs humanity about 25 days or so. Again
sorry.

You didn't waste space. You had a problem; you solved it; and you explained
how. There is always value in that.
