Default Sharing problem

Hi all,

I have this little, however frustrating, problem.

I have to Xp-Home pc's connected to a wireless router. One is direct
connected to the router (by cable), the other on is wireless connected.
They can both access the internet.

I would like to set up printer sharing. I placed both pc in the same
workgroup. I have also disabled the firewalls on both pc's. I shared a
drive on both pc's (just for testing purposes).

In my explanation below, the pc with the cable connected to the router,
I will call PC-C, the other one I will call PC-W.

What happens now:
PC-C can ping PC-W
PC-W can ping PC-C

PC-C can see, by using network neighbourhood, both pc's (which is
normal)
PC-W can see, by using network neighbourhood, both pc's (which is also
normal)

PC-C can access the share of PC-W and see its files.

So far so good, but:
PC-W cannot access the shares (nor see them) of PC-C. At least not by
using network neighbourhood.
I receive a message saying I don't have enough authority (I don't know
the exact message in English because it is a dutch version of Xp-Home
ed)

When I do a "net use" from a command line, the share is created and I
can access the files of PC-C. No password needs to be given!

The problem is that I don't need to access a drive-share but a
printer-share.

What is going wrong. Why can't I browse PC-C from PC-W?
If I can browse PC-C, than I will probably also see its shared
printers. Getting it to work from here will be easy.

I hope its a bit clear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If your primary interest is printer sharing, and net use works for file
sharing; it should also work for printers:

NET USE LPT1: \\computer name\share name of printer

Thank you for your response Doug, I will certainly give it a try and I
will keep you posted .

Off course, this doesn't explain why I can't see the shares within
explorer, so if you have any idea of what I can check, you may always
let me know.

Default Re: Sharing problem

I have done some further testing:

1) I verified that Server-service was running on both pc's
2) I verified that Computer browser-service was running on both pc's
3) I verified that only TCP-IP protocol was being used

Everything was in order, but browsing the network neigbourhood still
failed.

I tried adding a netword printer, by using the add printer dialogue.
When I typed
in the server and the printer share, the printer driver was installed.

I am now able to printer from both pc's and this was the primary
interest.

I still don't know why I am unable to see the shares. Maybe it has
something
to do with the wireless router in between. It has a build in firewall
which perhaps
blocks some kind of requests.
