I have a new Dell Dimension with Windows XP Home and an existing Dell
Optiplex with Windows XP Professional. I have connected the two computers using a Linksys Cable Router. I have run the Windows Network Wizard on both. The two computers are sharing Internet access, but how do I get them to share files or printers? |

The Network Setup Wizard should have done everything necessary, short of your setting up shares and permissioning. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/using-network-setup-wizard-in-windows.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...n-windows.html If any problems, go thru my troubleshooting guides. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/10/irregularities-in-workgroup-visibility.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/1...isibility.html <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/06/file-sharing-under-windows-xp.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...indows-xp.html If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Oh my God, Chuck...you are a God send! Your link
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> that I went to...and the first thing you told me to check 'personal firewall', I said to myself "It can't be that easy!" and it was! So thank you. I've been all through micrsoft's kb and they never once mentioned that as a possible cause. I kept wishing for Windows 95 and the days of mapping a drive letter. I kept thinking "Windows XP Home networking should not be this difficult!"
