Default Restoring network connections

I am having a problem with XP not restoring network connections to
mapped drives and a shared printer.

The mapped drives have the "reconnect on login" checked but it's
ignored. Although the mapped drive letters are shown in "My Computer"
a long with the local drives, you actually have to click on it to
actually restore the map.

The shared printer (printer is on another computer) will work through
Windows, but i have a DOS app that doesn't work after rebooting. I
use the "NET" command to assign the LPT1 to the correct network
printer path. I just want to stress that the printer DOES work from
the DOS app initially, but after reboot it will not. If one were to
type "NET USE" after initial bootup you would see all network
connections listed as "unavailable".

Any ideas?
