I've been running 3 pcs (2 with XP-home and one XP-pro) on a belkin wireless network with Norton IS 2006 installed and configured for all three (allowing for a range of network addresses from 192.168.2.1 to ....199). Up until yesterday this worked fine. Internet access and networking works fine on two of them but on the third, although I can see the network, access is denied (ugh!!) and I cannot get internet access. The belkin54g connection says it is fine and the ip address looks reasonable (192.168.2.4) and is different from the others. I tried running the network connection wizard (using a portable hdd) again but it makes no difference. Oh, and XP-pro on that PC won't let me restore to a time when I know the network and internet access was working.

What is going on here? I've had problems with XP networking in the past but this one has me stumped!!??

Let's look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, so we
can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely:

Home1 has both IPV6 (aka Teredo Tunneling) and IPX/SPX (aka NWLink IPX/SPX).
Neither of those transports are necessary for Windows Networking (ie file
sharing) to work properly. Either of those transports may be causing your
problem. Please remove both components from the Local Area Connection -
Properties transports list.

Ohhh... did all that. At first I got no connection at all on restart (the pc just did nothing for 5 mins or so then showed no wireless connection at all). On shut-down/restart the connection came back but no network visible or internet connection... :@( I haven't got time to go through the browstat or ipconfig palaver now - is there anything simple I can try before then?

Mike,

When you make network changes, you need to make them slowly and deliberately,
and evaluate the results of the changes. An updated copy of "browstat status"
and "ipconfig /all" from each computer is part of the evaluation process. It's
hella easier to do things slowly than haphazardly, in the long run.

Let me know when you do have time to go through the browstat or ipconfig
palaver, and we'll continue.
