Hello; I have two XP Home SP1 machines connected on a wired network. Both computers run just fine independently. Computer 2 has many large folders containing several hundred files each 20 Mb. Computer 1 can open small folders with small files on Computer 2 but when Computer 1 trys to open a large folder with a large file on Computer 2, Computer 1 hangs and Windows Explorer shows Not Responding in Task Manager. When using Adobe PhotoShop CS on Computer 1 and I try to open a large file in a large folder on Computer 2 PhotoShop also hangs and shows Not Responding in Task Manager. Computer 1 is working good accept for this large file opening issue. I am suspecting Computer 1 is the problem as I can open the large files on Computer 2 when I connect my laptop in place of Computer 1. Both Computer 1 and 2 are Gateway machines each with 2.1 Ghz processors with 2 Gb of RAM. I regularly run Defrag, Norton Anti-Virus scans and several spyware and adware software scans so I am very confident both machines are clean. I just don't know why Computer 1 can open small folders and files on Computer 2 but not large folders and files on Computer 2. Two weeks ago I had an onsite computer tech here for 2 1/2 hours trying to fix this problem and he was unable to find anything. I am trying to decide if the only way to fix this problem is to format the hard drive and do a complete reinstall of XP and all of my software on Computer 1. I hope someone has some good ideas on how to fix this issue. Thanks in advance! -- Regards, Bill Artman |
