Hi,
No, you can format using WinXP's setup. The only time you would need a win98 disk is for proof of ownership of a qualifying product to create a clean installation on a formatted disk with the upgrade disk. If the installation already exists on the drive, it will qualify the installation routine before you get to that point. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Bstonmike1" <Bstonmike1@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CA9784AD-A15D-4F34-9820-DD3A3F6D61E7@microsoft.com... > Since I hve just an upgrade disk do I need to use a win98se cd or bootdisk > to > access format b-4 and so i can re-install XP Home? > > Thanx > > Bstonmike1 |

You'll be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the installation process. The Upgrade CD checks to see if a qualifying OS is installed, and, if it finds none, it asks you to insert the installation media (CD) of that OS. Unfortunately, an OEM "Recovery/Restore" CD will not work for this purpose; you must have a true installation CD, complete with the "\Win98" folder and *.cab files, or the "\i386" folder of WinNT/2K. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace.
