I transfered files from an old hard drive with windows XP to a new hard drive
and a new windows xp, now I can't open the transfered files. I tried to set the security under safe mode to allow me access, but they still wont open. I don't have the disk from the original xp, and the old hard drive won't boot. What would be my other options. |

Hi,
If you get "access denied", then you haven't set permissions properly. Please see this link on "taking ownership" of a folder: http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm#Taking_ownership If they simply do nothing when double clicked, do you have the right supporting program installed? What file type are they? -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Cynthia" <Cynthia@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:522CA5AA-8A19-482D-95E5-476CD9893F87@microsoft.com... >I transfered files from an old hard drive with windows XP to a new hard >drive > and a new windows xp, now I can't open the transfered files. What would be my other options. It could be that the transfer activated the Read Only attribute and that the associated program won't open Read Only files. There are several different file types from jpeg to zip files. I set
ownership of the folders, but I can't set ownership of the files. I don't even get the option to change ownership under administrator. I can see the option, but I don't have permission to use it. I used maxblast 4 to transfer the files.
