Starts to run Defrag.., but then gives a error message saying the system is
missing a MCL42u.DLL. When I download and install that file it's still
gives the same error message..!!!

Okay gang.., it's pretty simple(?). I've got an older Gateway 9300 laptop
that had been running great lo'these past few years.., then last week none
of my utilities would work because of this "missing" file. NOW no matter if
I reload it, download it, check it, or anything suggested will the utilities
function. So, is there away to just reload the XP Pro system without
killing everything else, or losing everthing..??

Have you tried a Repair install?
