Hi, I had this problem starting my computer -
windows\system\config\system32 file corrupt or missing. Did a search and followed instructions to the t. However, in Part 2, I couldn't find the System Volume Information folder. Did as instructed (checked the show hidden files and folders), but still didn't find it. Did a search and still couldn't. Any ideas on what I should do? I'm a novice so am wondering if there's something obvious I'm missing. Pleeese help! JD |

Hi JD,
The System Volume Information folder is where System Restore holds restore points. Why are you trying to get into this folder? It's hidden for good reason. Where are the System Restore files located on the drive? http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html#SRFileLocation -- Regards, Bert Kinney MS-MVP Shell/User http://bertk.mvps.org jd wrote: > Hi, I had this problem starting my computer - > windows\system\config\system32 file corrupt or missing. > Did a search and followed instructions to the t. I couldn't start my system - got an error message saying that
windows\system\config\system32 is either corrupt or missing. So, I followed the procedure on the Microsoft site to address this. Part 2 of the procedure calls for the latest restore points to be copied to the temp folder and then used. I can't find the system volume information folder to be able to do that. I've already done the "show hidden folders" etc., but this folder is still missing. |

I still can't find this folder.
Is it possible that this folder somehow has been deleted? If so, is there some other way of getting the various user profiles, and the files I have on my hard disk to show up just like I did before this problem? |

System Volume Information is a hidden, Read Only folder. Do you have Windows Explorer set to show hidden files and folders? You will not be able to do anything with that folder without going through System Restore. -- Frank Saunders, MS-MVP OE Please respond in Newsgroup only. Yes, Windows Explorer is set to show hidden files and folders. Can't
find it though. System Restore doesn't show any points prior to the day I first had the problem. So, can't figure out what to do. |

Hi,
Follow the steps on this page to access the System Volume Information folder. If SR shows no restore points before the problem occurred then finding the folder will do absolutely no good, i.e. there is nothing to restore.
The path to my SR folder is "C:\System Volume Information" yours should be in the same place. -- Just my 2¢ worth, Jeff __________in response to__________ "jd" <jdevrajan@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1129345815.683526.133870@g43g2000cwa.googlegr oups.com... | Yes, Windows Explorer is set to show hidden files and folders.
