Plug a microphone into the mic in of your sound card. Go to
"Entertainment" folder and open the Sound Recorder

Click Edit/properties and in the microphone section make sure your
sound card is selected

Click the speaker icon in the lower left corner of the taskbar

Click options/properties. Click the recording dial and make sure
"microphone is selected"

Click "OK" and in the Microphone section adjust the recording level as
necessary

Push thee sound recorders record button and start talkin'

Sound recorder works ok if the message recorded is less than 30 seconds
i believe its max is.To record a longer message, download WM encoder 8 or
9 series, you can then record any amount so long as space is available on hd.

Sound Recorder is fairly old. I guess they didn't want users crashing windows by chewing up all disk space

It's 60 secs and one can paste more time into a file and then record over it to get more time.

many thanks Andrew E. i have downloaded wm encoder 9 as per your advice,

figure it out in the fullness of time but at present i can only spend a short
time a day on the computer, any chance of more help?
