limited users on XP have problems using programs installed by administrators
why is this? what is the solution for this? For instance when logged on as
a limited user Outlook Express 6 won't allow me to reply to e-mail . a
message comes up and says that the address book is not available and then
that OE 6 is not installed properly. Yet logged as administrator it works
well. Other programs installed by administrator have the same problem how is
this remedied?

The administrator has the ability to say who can use it.
That is for Win XP Professional
The administrator can do anything because the limited users can do bad
things and it is a way to prevent this.
For me this is very useful function but it has some little disadvantages but
they will be fixed in the new Win version - Win Vista.

I went to this site and found a link to a program to set user privileges
called Windows XP Security Console. I put it on to CD and tried to unzip it
there but it required a password to unzip. So that's as far as I've gone
with this suggestion.

I see what you mean but it makes it so that the administrator has to be
there all the time just to make programs run properly. Or everybody has to
be administrator with this way! Then there is no security!

Doug's zip file is not passworded, try downloading it and running from the
local drive.

No,the administrator need not bo be there all the time.He/She can do
permissions which programs to run or which not...

Is you the only one of that computer,I mean if your are not the
administrator,ask him for more.

There is security if everyone is GOOD and RESPONSIBLE andministrator.

Would Outlook give me this problem? Would just going to Outlook and removing
OE 6 be a simple solution for me?

1. You can't uninstall OE.

2. If you some how managed, Outlook would install OE when it was installed.
Outlook requires OE.
