Did a stupid thing. Not sure how I did it, but I am fairly sure I created a
hidden adminitrator in my user accounts. I need to find it and restore it because I need those files. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Look for them under the name for the account you created.

Thanks. It sounds as if you were using the built-in Administrator account and then created another account that's a Computer Administrator. As soon as you create that second account the built-in Adminstrator account becomes hidden. Take a look here for more info: How to login as Administrator in Windows XP http://windowsxp.mvps.org/admins.htm If you want to recover the files from the built-in Adminstrator account you'd have to follow the procedure outlined here: How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 Good luck Nepatsfan |

I think I found it, but my access is denied for the documents folder, and of
course, I cannot drag it to the shared folders area either. I don't believe I set a password for it, but it has been a while. Thanks. "Dave Patrick" wrote: > Look for them under the name for the account you created. > C:\Documents and Settings\ > > |

Nepatsfan's assumption is probably right. If still no joy and as long as
encryption isn't involved as a local administrator you can take ownership. Explorer|"folder"|File|Properties|Security|Advance d|Owner and take ownership. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Tried his method couldn't open with any of my usual passwords. Went into
bios (?) and USER Passwords is not one I can choose --cursor just skips over it. Also I do not understand this: Explorer|"folder"|File|Properties|Security|Advance d|Owner Thanks, J "Dave Patrick" wrote: > Nepatsfan's assumption is probably right. Windows passwords are not stored in bios they are encrypted in the SAM
database. What I mentioned was a method to navigate to the folder (Windows Explorer) in question and take ownership. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Hi. I know you meant as a way to navigate but I do not understand you.
Explorer|"folder"|File|Properties|Security|Advance d|Owner. What is this Explorer? Where is it? If I go to My computer and then windows folder there is no "file", etc. Obviously if I am stupid enough to lose my account I am too stupid to understand tech talk. Could you give me easier instructions? Thanks, J "Dave Patrick" wrote: > Windows passwords are not stored in bios they are encrypted in the SAM > database. > > What I mentioned was a method to navigate to the folder (Windows Explorer) > in question and take ownership. > > -- > > Regards, > > Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. > Microsoft Certified Professional > Microsoft MVP [Windows] > http://www.microsoft.com/protect > > "jenniferesme" wrote: > > Tried his method couldn't open with any of my usual passwords.
