Most software installation routines still warn the user to disable antivirus apps during installation. But it's been something that I've always ignored, without ever suffering any consequences. (Even at work, SP2 was pushed out, via SMS, to thousands of machines, all running Symantec AV CE, without any problems.) That's why I asked if there were specific antivirus or firewall applications that were known to have caused problems. I can't help wondering if perhaps this is "legacy" advice that's no longer as relevant as it used to be. (Much like the old saw about a clean installation *always* being preferable to an upgrade -- it made good sense at one time, but is no longer a universally applicable "law.") -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html You can have peace. Or you can have freedom. Don't ever count on having both at once. - RAH |
