Since I only tried the program once and had to disable an AVG service via Recovery Console, no. But I would hope that this program, like most other antivirus programs for Windows, lists its startup items somewhere useful. That "hope" is why I suggested checking on it. Again, thanks for the assist and for posting at least one of the startup items an AVG user can look for on their system. ![]() -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Hi
Yes I installed AVG7 in standard mode so it would load all the plugins etc. And I did check msconfig and startup folder and nothing is listed for AVG. I did read the help file and it does state that it starts up automatically with windows, but even before I reformatted and added SP2 to my Win XP Home O/S I had to start the program from the program folder. I'll uninstall it and try again. Also I personally turn off my broadband connection when I shut down, and usually when I booted up before Reformat etc I had to manually connect to the internet, I find this a better option than letting the kids use the pc and accidently going online and causing all kinds of problems, not to mention the risks of viewing unpallatable material, if you get my point. And thanks for the link to the AVG forums. -- Regards pmc "Sharon F" <sharonfDEL@ETEmvps.org> wrote in message news:ud0aMB03FHA.3976@TK2MSFTNGP15.phx.gbl... > On Tue, 1 Nov 2005 23:34:08 -0000, Gerry Cornell wrote: > >> Sharon >> >> Have you used MSCONFIG or Administrative Tools> Services to check if AVG >> items are scheduled to load at startup? >> >> It appears in my StartUp folder as "avgcc". > > Since I only tried the program once and had to disable an AVG service via > Recovery Console, no. Sorted
I turned off Ad-Watch monitor before re-installing AVG and it let me allow the program to add itself to the registry to run. I can't understand why it didn't do that when it was running, unless I missed it. Anyway thanks for the input, just got to get my system to allow the windows update site to load now -- Regards pmc "p.mc" <p@mc.com> wrote in message news:dk98c7$a75$1@nwrdmz03.dmz.ncs.ea.ibs-infra.bt.com... > Hi > > Yes I installed AVG7 in standard mode so it would load all the plugins > etc. And I did check msconfig and startup folder and nothing is listed for > AVG. It may have been frustrating having something designed to protect you (Ad-Watch) getting in the way *but* if you had been a bit of malware trying to install and changing settings - you would have been blocked from doing so. I guess there's comfort in knowing Ad-Watch was just doing its job. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
