Tools, Internet Options, Home Page.
Click on Blank Page, Apply and Ok, and exit. Restart the Computer and then go to Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, Home Page. Enter the address of the desired Home Page and click Apply and OK. -- Hope this helps. If you're using Spybot S & D, AdAware Pro or a similar program that provides real-time protection, you might want to check to see if you've enabled a feature that prevents your Internet Explorer settings from being changed. For Spybot, check in Tools/IE Tweaks. For AdAware, check the Ad-Watch settings. Good luck Nepatsfan |

You may have software installed that protects against home page hijackings. You'll need to figure out what you have installed that would block this change, then work with that program and IE to get the home page switched over to what you want it to be. Types of software that have this sort setting include internet security packages and anti-spyware programs. Examples of anti-spyware programs that have these settings: MS Antispyware, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Hi
I had to disable "block possible hijack attempts" in Ad-Watch's monitor to change my home page. Is it possible to let Ad-Watch recognise my new home page and turn on "block possible hijack attempts" I did try that after the change but it reverted back to MSN. Also Plato said to look in settings area in AVG7 to get the program to start with windows, but all I could find was...Service/ program settings F8/ and two tabs "program" and "keyboard"...But nothing there to allow program to start up with Windows?? -- Regards pmc "Sharon F" <sharonfDEL@ETEmvps.org> wrote in message news:euwatsi3FHA.3400@tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... > On Mon, 31 Oct 2005 05:43:35 +0000 (UTC), p.mc wrote: > >> WinXP Home SP2 >> >> Hi >> Since installing SP2, my home page on IE6 is MSN, but when I get google >> up >> and make that my default home page in... tools/ Internet options/ >> General/ >> use current. I'm glad you found the relevant setting. Are you referring to Ad-Watch that is part of the paid version of AdAware? Unfortunately, I don't have that program installed at the moment so I can't look up the answer in the help file for you. If you open the program's help, you could probably find it though. > Also Plato said to look in settings area in AVG7 to get the program to start > with windows, but all I could find was...Service/ program settings F8/ and > two tabs "program" and "keyboard"...But nothing there to allow program to > start up with Windows?? Plato perhaps will expand on this for you as again, this is not a program that I use. I downloaded the help file though. It looks like you need to go to the "Control Center" screen. The portion of that window marked "AVG Resident Shield" will tell you is the background scanning is loaded and active. If it is not active, click that square area to bring up the needed settings to get that setup for running with Windows startup. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |

Thanks Sharon I have followed the instructions, and the Resident shield has loaded, but only when I start the AVG program first from my program files, and on each of the portions in the "control centre screen" when I check their properties/settings and advanced areas I can't find anything to check that will make the program run at start-up. The reason I am concerned is that my broadband connection starts itself up shortly after the welcome screen. I don't know whether this has something to do with SP2 or something I need to uncheck somewhere. I done a scan in safe mode with "multi av" to check for virus or spyware, but nothing came up. I also noticed that my "BT voyager 105 modem" used to have an icon on the taskbar consisting of 2 green arrows (up and down) which I have to now click on the dslstat.exe in the modem folder now? -- Regards pmc "Sharon F" <sharonfDEL@ETEmvps.org> wrote in message news:Ov5zr5l3FHA.2432@TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl... > On Mon, 31 Oct 2005 18:23:44 +0000 (UTC), p.mc wrote: > >> Hi >> I had to disable "block possible hijack attempts" in Ad-Watch's monitor >> to >> change my home page. I have AVG Free on one of my two computers. I tried to find an answer to the Start question but can find nothing in the programme. Mine starts automatically. In the Reference Manual it refers to a choice of Standard or Custom Installation. Did you choose Custom? There is an active Forum for users: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/ -- Hope this helps. Gerry has posted some useful info on AVG for you. And again, I'm sorry that I can't answer those questions since I've never used this program. I tried AVG once and the service it loads would not allow my system to boot. Never tried it again. Always curious about it though since it works so well for others. Not sure why your broadband connection starting at startup is a concern? Mine is always on so I don't understand your comment. I use a NAT router with SPI so don't worry if the antivirus takes an extra moment to load when the system is first booted. The router protects me during that little window of time while the A/V gets going. Is that what you're worried about? Are there messages appearing that make you think a/v is not loading at all? Have you used MSCONFIG or Administrative Tools> Services to check if AVG items are scheduled to load at startup? Tried Task Manager to see if anything AVG is listed as running there? I really think that your inability to change the home page is due to other software that you have installed rather than a hijacking. Never hurts to be cautious and double check for malware but at least you can worry a little less while sorting out this setting change? -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
