I tried installing IE6 SP1 even though I thought it wasn't the solution, but anyway it gave a message saying I had another operation pending and needed a reboot before installing, and even after a reboot it still stated the same on another try. I also removed a registry entry to no avail and then restored it, as well as trying a reg update to resolve an issue when KB896688 has been installed. I use Sygate personal firewall pro and checked in the applications field to see if anything referred to windows update and couldn't find anything obvious there that might help me see if the firewall was allowing the site to be accessed, if someone else uses Sygate and could let me know how this would be worded in the application field so I could check it or add it, then that would be a great help -- Regards pmc -- Regards pmc |

One question that now needs to be asked is just what were the sequence of events that lead to this situation? It would seem that you had re-installed WinXP Home/SP2 and they reformatted and re-installed with the OEM recovery disk? Or is the state of the hard drive currently WinXP Home/SP2. If this is the case, then just how valid is this WinXP Home/SP2 version. That is, was it provided as a full-install cdrom by the OEM? or was this cdrom kludged together? Both of these scenarios could get the result being described since using the OEM recovery disk as the last install on the HD results in a pre-SP2 version of Windows XP. Or, with the second, a kludged, slip-streamed version of WinXP couldl result in one that is invalid, per recent Microsoft validation changes. |

Yes sorry
I replied in the thread I started "redirection" 30.10.2005...19:30pm, but I couldn't see it after refreshing and getting new headers, so I tried a new post, " I know I shouldn't have sorry" but anyway my modem was playing up. If you follow the "redirection" thread, it will probably make sense then, thankyou. -- Regards pmc "Ghostrider" <-00-@fitron.142> wrote in message news:uJNagSm3FHA.1420@TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl... > > > p.mc wrote: > >> Hi >> >> My computer came with WinXP Home pre-installed, with a product recovery >> disk >> (OEM) >> I believe, and that is what I installed again after reformatting and >> adding >> SP2.
