Did you doubleclick My Computer and see if your CD-Rom drive is listed,
under Devices with Removable Storage? If not listed, then the cable is not properly connected, the drive is malfunctioning or may need the drivers reinstalled. If it is listed, then: rightclick the drive>Properties> Hardware tab>Troubleshoot, or: CD-R Drive or CD-RW Drive Is Not Recognized As a Recordable Device http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q316529 -- XP - WNP Today is the first day of the rest of your life. IDE CDRrom: check your cables.
USB? go to your device manager and look under USB devices for a mass storage device. If it is listed then change the drive letter of it or maybe some other device you have connected but not your C drive. XP will make a USB device default to take the next letter available after C. > How do i get into my BIOS? Usually when you first start a computer, there will be a prompt that says something like, "Press DEL to enter Setup" or the like. Here's a link with common BIOS key presses: http://michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm Otherwise, read the manual that came with your computer or look on Compaq's website for tech support for your specific machine.
