Default hardware

dont know what i did,but cd-rom not being detected or able to read any
cd.what do i do?

Did you doubleclick My Computer and see if your CD-Rom drive is listed,
under Devices with Removable Storage? If not listed, then the cable is
not properly connected, the drive is malfunctioning or may need the
drivers reinstalled. If it is listed, then: rightclick the drive>Properties>
Hardware tab>Troubleshoot, or:
CD-R Drive or CD-RW Drive Is Not Recognized As a Recordable Device

IDE CDRrom: check your cables.

USB? go to your device manager and look under USB devices for a mass storage
device. If it is listed then change the drive letter of it or maybe some
other device you have connected but not your C drive. XP will make a USB
device default to take the next letter available after C.

no my CD-Rom drive is not listed when i doubleclick My Computer or under
Devices.Im runing Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on COMPAQ NoteBook PC.

Is the drive seen in the BIOS? If not, contact Compaq tech support to
resolve your hardware problem.

Usually when you first start a computer, there will be a prompt that
says something like, "Press DEL to enter Setup" or the like. Here's a
link with common BIOS key presses:

Otherwise, read the manual that came with your computer or look on
Compaq's website for tech support for your specific machine.
