Default Downloading problems

I have a problem when downloading.

If I try to download an .exe file I am being told I am downloading a
..fpx file instead. I download it and comes as an .fpx file (a friend
has tried to download the same files and it came as a .exe file as it
should. [ ie I try to download myfile.exe and get myfile.fpx]

It has only recently started to do this and so I think I have a problem
with my setup.

How can I get the correct extension on my downloaded files?

Thanks in anticipation

Right click and rename from .fpx to .exe. However, you should scan the file
with an AntiVirus scanner first.
