I started a thread yesterday about a problem I was having with my Volume
Control icon not displaying in the system tray. What has finally fixed the problem is: After I hit the power on, it boots up automatically without any intervention from me. (At this point the system tray does NOT have the volume control showing. Then, I log off and from the log-on screen, I pick my name. When everything settles down again, the system tray has in it what its suppose to have. Recently a technician had me create a new logon account to do some testing. When we were through, I deleted the account. Perhaps that has created my problem. I am the only person using my machine I am the administrator. Can I fix something so that I don't have to log off and on to get to the right profile? I installed XP Pro as an upgrade over ME. I have a Pentium 4 with 256M of ram, 40G HD, and 1.3 processor. Thanks, Jeannine |

If it auto logs in, how do you know what user account it is using?
Open C:\documents and settings What users are listed? you obviously have more than one login. -- Dennis S. I''m from Illinois. I hope I helped you. Good Luck. Somebody suggested I add a password to my login, that maybe if it slowed
down a little, it could find the volume icon. Funny thing, it worked the very first time I tried it but not thereafter. The only thing that will consistently work is to let it boot up (now I have to enter a password) and after I get in (which, incidentally takes a VERY!!!!! long time--unlike any other XP machine I use, but I've written than off to the fact that the machine with the volume icon problem only has a 1.3 processor and 256M of RAM) then I log off and log in. Then the notification area shows up the way its supposed to. Maybe I should start all over and do a clean installation of XP like I knew I should have in the first place. Thanks, Jeannine |
