How to exclude Microsoft Office Program/documents from virus scanning?

First of all I would like to thank the people who are posting the
solutions/answers to our problems/posts; thank you very much!

Now, if possible, I would like to have my Microsoft Office programs & files
excluded from virus scanning, so these can open quickly without having to be
virus scanned (I understand that virus scanning causes them to open with
delay). However, I do not know what files to exclude from virus scanning and
therefore prevent/avoid the delay in Microsoft Office program/document
opening on my machines (I do not know the codes/extensions for Microsoft
Office files that are offered for exclusion by my Norton 2003 virus scan on
the first machine, and McAfee virus scan on the other one. Among many,
these are some of the extensions/codes offered for virus scan exclusion I can
see: (ACE, .ACX,).

(snip)

You don't want to exclude any file extensions from scanning. What you
want to do is go into your antivirus program and look for an option
that integrates it into MS Office and then disable that. Check your
antivirus program's Help files or their tech support site for details.
