I today found that port 21 (for FTP server) was in stealth mode.
So I could not do FTP. Could some tell me how to open ports? Craig |

What is your Operating System ?
Windows version and Service Pack level??? Generally opening ports can be done with Firewall. For Windows XP SP 2 and its firewall , Start-Settings-Control Panel-Windows Firewall then click on Exceptions and click on ADD PORT Keep in mind that opening a port or creating and exception poses a security threat to your computer, privacy and data !!! My OS is WinXP Pro-Sp2. While waiting for reply, I tried Windows
Firewall - advance. That permitted opening of the port21. Now, ftping is working. I have another similar computer at home. Both office and home computers have almost identical configuration and software installation. Ftping did not work on my office computer because port 21 was blocked. On the other, no problem with my home computer. I am puzzled about port 21. Could you please tell me what causes blocking (or opening) port21? Then, I will be careful in future. Well , I can't tell you .
How could I know ? There are too many things that might open / close the port Any person with physical and non-physical contact (by malware) can do that . Settings or else...... If your Office computer is a part of domain ,in network or monitored by another person, system or network administrator?!?! Also ,another security software...... ![]() Panda_man -- Let's beat malware black and blue Panda TruPrevent - the most intelligent technology to combat unknown malware http://www.pandasoftware.com http://www.microsoft.com/protect "Craig" wrote: > My OS is WinXP Pro-Sp2.
