Default Two line Taskbar

I tried large icons on my taskbar and decided I didn't like them. When I
returned to small icons my taskbar remained large. I have used the double
headed arrow to no avail and waited too long to use the "System Restore".

It appears my problem is with the notification area as everything there are
stacked vertically 3 icons high. I can't get them into a single line.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, David

Right click a vacant area of the Taskbar.........make sure there is not a
checkmark next to "Lock the Toolbar" and you should be able to resize the
taskbar with the double-ended arrow and your mouse.
Heirloom, old and 'tis the way mine works

Yes I did.

I'm still of the opinion that my problem has something to do with the
"Time". Everything is normal except the time. Instead of just showing the
time it shows the time, day and date, taking up 3 lines. How can I restore
the default time only?

Cheers,
David

When you get the double ended arrow did you hold down the left mouse button
and drag it down to one line and then release the button?
