Default Re Install XP

I had my laptop stolen and lucky for the Police recovered it but I now have
a problem which is who ever stole it has tried to re-format I think, it is a
IBM T23
and had Windows XP, SP2.

I have kept all my files but I have trird to re-install windows Xp with
both a recovery disk and the programme disk and all I get is 'INVALID SYSTEM
DISK. REPLACE DISK, PRESS OK'. Can anyone help me please

With disk in the drive, try going into CMOS or BIOS setup (usally by
holding down CTRL while booting up) Change primary boot device from
Hard Drive to CD drive. Save and exit. Restart computer. Should boot
from CD and let you reinstall XP.
