Default Previous activation?

Is there a way to tell (ie a Microsoft site) where a product key can be
entered to see if an XP Home Edition has been previously activated before
installing it - actually before I buy it from a private party.

Thanks
Jack

That is not the purpose of activation. If one is buying any
product that requires activation from a private party, make
sure to get all of the original content. This includes the
cdrom, product key, manuals, etc. Even then, it would still
be safer to buy your own copy from a reputable source.

As long as you get the right serial you can activate it as many times as you
want on one computer. Just make sure you buy a legal copy and get the
correct serial.
