Default memory

i only have 128mb of memory on my system. I wastold to increase it. I scanned
my system which said i could add another 256mb and that i needed pc133 sdram
which i bought. I fitted it to my pc and started it up. There seemed to be no
difference. 2 days lter the whole system crashed. i had it fixed and was told
that i had mixed up the memory. My original 128 was pc100.
My question is do i have to add 256 of pc 100 sdram or can i add 128 of
pc133 sdram and is any of the two better than the other?
Also why was the scan incorrect in the information?

You can only add RAM that is exactly compatible with your computer.

The easiest way to find RAM that is exactly compatible is to use the RAM
selectors offered by the major RAM manufacturers. For example:
www.crucial.com.

Since you told us nothing about the scan you used, no one can account for
its results. Why not ask the creator of the scan?

There are actually two different types of PC133 SDRAM - high density
and low density.

As your computer has PC100 SDRAM at present it is a virtual certainty
that it will only accept PC100 or the low density PC133 modules.

The vast majority of the PC133 modules available today are the high
density type. Low density PC133 can be very hard to find and usually
costs quite a bit more than the high density.

As well as Crucial as suggested by Ted Ziegler, another good source
for compatible memory would be Kingston (www.kingston.com).

Good luck
