Just about to buy a machine with XP. I am buying it in France and am
getting conflicting information. Can I set it so that menus and help are displayed in English? I have been told both yes and no. Any thoughts appreciated. Mike |

It will be in French and you can't change it without buying and installing an English version. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |

Mike;
No, you need to buy Windows XP in the language you want. If it is the salesperson at the store, ask for a demonstration. Of course they will not succeed. At that point you should leave and visit someone at least a little informed about what they sell. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "Mike Ricletts" <Michael.Ricketts@wanadoo.fr> wrote in message news:43a325d3$0$20180$8fcfb975@news.wanadoo.fr... > Just about to buy a machine with XP. Hi there,
If it is French edition, you would not be able to change it. "Ken Blake, MVP" wrote: > Mike Ricletts wrote: > > > Just about to buy a machine with XP. hi
you can change the windows language. you have to get a multilanguage user interface program from the vendor. "Mike Ricletts" wrote: > Just about to buy a machine with XP. Not true in this case.
The MUI will only install on an English version. The OP is buying in France and will come in French so the MUI will not even install Also see: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/D...qs/MUIFaq.mspx -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "quensin" <quensin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4C203AD4-2E86-436C-A18A-FFE57DD43778@microsoft.com... > hi > you can change the windows language. you have to get a multilanguage user > interface program from the vendor. |

I have now bought the laptop with French XP and will probably buy an OEM English XP package to solve my problem. I will open a new thread for this but can I just load the English XP and leave both packages on the laptop or should I uninstall the French. HDD space should not be an issue. Mike Ricketts |
