The freezing is not necessarily a memory issue, in fact, it could well be
outdated video drivers. Try this, a safe little test to help narrow the problem: Right click a vacant area of the desktop, select Properties, Settings tab, click on the Advanced button, then the Troubleshoot tab. You will see the Hardware Acceleration slider....move this to one notch above 'None.' Reboot your machine and see if the 'freezing' issue is gone. If so, suspect video and or mouse drivers needing updates. Don't forget to put the slider back to Full when you have resolved the issue or if it has no affect. There are a number of 'animated' cursors available, but, I personally consider them 'eye candy' and a waste of resources. If you just have to have them, do a Google search.....just be careful and investigate what you are getting, things like Comet Cursor would not be desirable. Did you lower the Hardware Acceleration, reboot and run your
machine?.....not just check on the drivers. If not, try it and see if the 'freezing' stops. Let us know. You can animate the cursor/hourglass in Control Panel-Mouse-Pointers
tab. (Normal Select/Working in Background) If you don't have any to install, try here: Animated Cursors-Dierk's - http://www.anicursor.com/ Cursors and Themes-Tucows - http://epix.themes.tucows.com/ Free icons cursors. - http://www.aha-soft.com/iconlibs.htm Joes Cursors - http://joescursors.tripod.com/ Windows XP Themes,Skins,Icons,Wallpapers: http://www.wincustomize.com/IndexSkins.aspx ....Alan -- Alan Edwards, MS MVP Windows - Internet Explorer http://dts-l.org/index.html On Tue, 20 Dec 2005 07:47:02 -0800, steve healey <stevehealey@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >sometimes i cant tell when my pc has locked up. >is there a way to animate the cursor/hourglass so that if the pc does freeze >i can tell.I know the freezing is a memory issue which i am rectifying. >Thanks |
