Default Doesn't automatically shut the computer down?

Hi,

I've installed xp onto a box with a 440bx chipset. when the computer shuts
down - i am left with the 'computer is now safe to switch off' message. But
the on- off switch doesn't allow me to switch the computer off until i reset
the computer and it starts re-booting.

It's a bit annoying.

Is there a way to get xp to shut the computer down (like win 98 did) or is
there likely to be a setting in the bios to enable the computer's on-off
switch to work?

Regards.
Gavin

"It is Now Safe to Turn Off Your Computer" message when you try to shut
down your computer -

Take a peek into the motherboard manual. Depending on how the
bios was setup to respond to the On/Off switch, it might need
to be held in for 5 or so seconds. The alternative would be to
turn the computer off from its power source.

Try holding the power switch in for ten seconds.
