Hi- thank you all so much in advance for your help. i tried to find a
similar question on this board but while some come close mine seems kind of unique so i hope that is the case and i am not asking a redundant question. even though this is going to sound like the most idiot thing you ever heard-- but i am really at a loss! Here is my problem: Every once-in-a-while my computer asks me to change my password. which is annoying but not enough i suppose where i ever thought to do anything about it-- so, whenever it asks, i change it with a couple clicks of the enter key so essentially the password is blank. well yesterday it did this again but i accidentally hit one or two of the keys around the 'enter' key which it accepted before i could stop it and of course now i have no clue what i hit. i have tried combinations of surrounding keys but no luck thus far. So, i can only get into my computer if i login as 'guest'. the problem is that i have a whole bunch of really impt documents in my Documents folder and of course i can no longer access it!! among other things. I am panicking bc i am in the legal profession and i NEED to be able to get in!! and perfect timing it's xmas holiday... so, short of taking this computer into some shop after stores reopen is there ANYTHING i can do on my own? with sincere thanks again. |

You're Welcome!!
Happy Holidays to you!! There is such thing as a creating a password recovery/reset disk which you can hide away somewhere. How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer that is not a domain member in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305478/ "becks" wrote: > Dixonian69 > i am MUCH obliged-- truly immense thanks. happy holidays, rgds- > > "Dixonian69" wrote: > > > boot into safe mode using "Administrator" account! > > this password is usually blank, also.] > > > > reset or delete password for your normal user account. > > > > "becks" wrote: > > > > > Hi- thank you all so much in advance for your help. i tried to find a > > > similar question on this board but while some come close mine seems kind of > > > unique so i hope that is the case and i am not asking a redundant question. > > > even though this is going to sound like the most idiot thing you ever heard-- > > > but i am really at a loss! > > > Here is my problem: Every once-in-a-while my computer asks me to change my > > > password. which is annoying but not enough i suppose where i ever thought to > > > do anything about it-- so, whenever it asks, i change it with a couple clicks > > > of the enter key so essentially the password is blank. well yesterday it did > > > this again but i accidentally hit one or two of the keys around the 'enter' > > > key which it accepted before i could stop it and of course now i have no clue > > > what i hit. i have tried combinations of surrounding keys but no luck thus > > > far.
