Yes, was over at a brother's house yesterday evening for Christmas Eve get
together. He has 3 PCs, a laptop, and other electronic entertainment toys
he's devoted just for that room. All computers connected to internet via
cable network. The laptop has no, zero protection for AV.
Tried pandasoftware.com for scanning which just sat there and did nothing.
ActiveX was enabled across the board in IE security settings. TrendMicro
online scanner was running when I left.
Without prompting, my brother even commented that the laptop was sure to
have something bad on it by now as its been connected to the internet all
day. Then he wants me to try to fix it if its broken. I left midway
through the TrendMicro online scan, shaking my head.

Point is, even if they know the dangers, they still do it anyway...

I emailed him the site for free AVG, and spybot S&D this morning.

Sound advice, but who's going to see it before they've connected?
