Automatic updates

Hi

I reinstalled the operating system on a Dell desktop and eveything works
fine except Automatic Updates. Windows automatically downloads and installs
19 updates but when I restart I get a blue screen which says that windows has
stopped and the only way that I can get it working again is to go into safe
mode and do a system restore to the time before the updates were installed.

It's going to take ages to try to custom install each update in turn until I
find which one is causing the problem so is there anything else I can try?
It's SP1 by the way, I don't think I can install SP2 until I sort out these
problems first.

Any suggestions please?

No, not really. That would be the recommended patch to isolate the
problematic update.

There is an MS newgroup, microsoft.public.windowsupdate, that focuses on
windows update problems. You might want to try there.

It's a sizeable (216MB) d/l so hopefully you've got broadband. But it
updated my PC while Windows Update would not -- due to an error that NOBODY,
including MS MVPs, seems to know about. ...and, much to my surprise, my
computer actually DOES seem be running faster and smoother. You can select
which updates/patches to apply.

It may have even fixed my problem with Windows Update; I don't know, I
haven't tried it yet. BTW, I do not use Automatic Updates.

You could also try here : http://windizupdate.com/ ...but this one never
worked for me.
