We cannot have two anti-virus programs running, as they interfere. Is
this true with anti-spyware? Can we have three anti-spyware programs running along with Panda anti-virus? |

Hi
Yes, that's not a problem. I have 4 different anti spyware programs that I run independently of each other. -- Will Denny MS MVP Windows Shell/User Please reply to the News Groups "Sanford Aranoff" <aranoff@analysis-knowledge.com> wrote in message news:43B3D497.A3521614@analysis-knowledge.com... > We cannot have two anti-virus programs running, as they interfere. I certainly don't recommend doing that becuase of the strong possibility of conflicts between them, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it can't be done. Also note that you can have two (or more) anti-virus programs *installed*. Just don't have more than one active at once. You can use multiple programs to scan the system at different times. > Is > this true with anti-spyware? Can we have three anti-spyware programs > running along with Panda anti-virus? In general, you can (and should) run multiple anti-spyware programs. Although in theory, one good anti-spyware program should check for and detect everything, in practice, no single program finds everything and it's wise to run several. I've never seen reports of conflicts between them. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |

You need only 1 antivirus software with permanent protection.
You need only 1 antispyware software with real-time protection.Although in some cases it is possible to have more than one,you need only 1 another because you might have noticed that some Panda Software products from 2004 and all Panda products from 2005 and 2006 have antispyware protection as well as antivirus protection as well as protections agaings unknown threats. From an E-Week.com article:
AV-Test, which tests anti-malware products, has been tracking the situation closely and has, so far, analyzed 73 variants of malicious WMF files. Products from the following companies have identified all 73: a.. Alwil Software (Avast) b.. Softwin (BitDefender) c.. ClamAV d.. F-Secure Inc. e.. Fortinet Inc. f.. McAfee Inc. g.. ESET (Nod32) h.. Panda Software i.. Sophos Plc j.. Symantec Corp. k.. Trend Micro Inc. l.. VirusBuster These products detected fewer variants: a.. 62 - eTrust-VET b.. 62 - QuickHeal c.. 61 - AntiVir d.. 61 - Dr Web e.. 61 - Kaspersky f.. 60 - AVG g.. 19 - Command h.. 19 - F-Prot i.. 11 - Ewido j.. 7 - eSafe k.. 7 - eTrust-INO l.. 6 - Ikarus m.. 6 - VBA32 n.. 0 - Norman It kind of blows holes in some of the comments posted here about how good one is vs. another. The interesting aspect of this is that the company that is bad mouthed the most (Norton AntiVirus) caught all 73 varients. Also, have a look at Ewido! -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User Quote from George Ankner: If you knew as much as you think you know, You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew! > You need only 1 antivirus software with permanent protection.
> > You need only 1 antispyware software with real-time protection Tech support told me that users have had problems with Panda anti-spyware. I have Panda anti-virus, and have disabled Firewall, Spyware, and everything else. I use eTrust PestPatrol for spyware. I use Windows Firewall. I dislike Panda Firewall because of this: I am a developer, writing software that connects with the Internet. Every time I modify the software, Panda asks me if I want to connect with the Internet with this software. Once I modify the software, Panda cannot remember. It is easier for me not to use Panda Firewall. Is this a good setup? I got burned last week, and had to reinstall the OS, along with all the hearache involved. I have backups which help. I am guessing that what happened is that I have a program, PerfectDisk, that restarts the system, and before booting defrags. A virus or whatever may have entered during this time, when Windows was not running. I decided not to run PerfectDisk in this offline mode. Thanks for your advice. |
