Numlock at start up

I am a new XP Pro user on a Network. How can I get my Numlock to stay on? I
want to be able to shut down my system and start it in the morning with the
Numlock staying active. This is the way I had it set in 2000, but since
being converted to XP I have yet to find the trick to make it stay on.

Ask your network administrator, who controls that setting.

I would love to but believe or not he told me he does not know, to see if I

You can do this in your setup boot program. When you start up your
computer press the DELETE key and your setup for the mother board will
come up. There is a setting in there that allows you to change the way
the computer boots up. One of them is to set the num lock on at boot.

No. WindowsXP ignores the BIOS setting for Numlock.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT and Win2K, by design, ignores
the BIOS settings for the NumLock key as a standard security feature.
(I'm afraid I can't remember the "security" issue initially addressed.)
By default, the NumLock key is turned off as WinXP starts, and keeps
it off until someone logs in and initializes a user profile. WinXP will
remember the NumLock's last state, meaning that if you log out with the
NumLock on, it will automatically turn on the next time you log in; If
you log out with the NumLock off, it will be off the next time you log in.

If one needs the NumLock on _before_ logging in, a registry edit
can be used to change WinXP's default behavior:

Well I'll be darned. And all the time I thought my BIOS was setting
numlocks on. It is always on when I boot up and I have my BIOS set to
turn it on. Will have to turn it off and reboot and see what happens.

Sure enough, that's the way it works. Turned off the numlock and
rebooted, XP came up with the numlock off. Turned on the numlock and
rebooted, XP came up with numlock on. Thanks for putting me straight.
