Using Windows XP-Pro.

I recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop Album Started Edition 3.0 and I love
it. However, now there is a new icon in my system tray for Adobe Photo
Downloader. I do not know how to prevent this program from starting itself
every time I reboot my system. It does not appear when I go into the
Control Panel, and it does not appear in my Startup folder, so I don't know
where else to look.

Where can I look to "turn off" the "automatically start this program"
option?

Go to start-run and type in msconfig . Hit ok and on the window that pops
up click the startup tab. Find your program and uncheck it. Next time you
restart your computer there will be a message saying you have chosen to use
selective startup. Put a check in the "don't show this again"

1. Right-click the Adobe Photo Downloader icon in the system tray of the
Windows Taskbar.
2. Select Disable.

Well, now we know that didn't work.

Look in msconfig to see where Adobe Photo Downloader loads from. I have no
idea if Adobe Photo Downloader is a dll or an exe file or the name of the
file.

It probably loads from one of these locations.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or %allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or %homepath%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If you can find the location with msconfig its startup reference can be
deleted.

I've found the appropriate exe file (apdproxy.exe) but even though I uncheck
it in the start-run-msconfig-startup, it still opens into the system tray
with the big red X through it. That's the same way it appeared when I just
disabled it.

That is why I did not recommend using msconfig to disable apdproxy.exe. If
you use msconfig to disable apdproxy.exe, apdproxy.exe doesn't know it and
just creates a new start reference.

apdproxy.exe is probably listed as Adobe Photo Downloader in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
Value Name: Adobe Photo Downloader
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value Data: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter
Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
Right click on Adobe Photo Downloader in the right hand pane and select
Delete.
Click Yes to the popup: Are you sure you want to delete this value?
Close the Registry Editor.

Or if you do not want to edit the registry, get StartMan or Startup Control
Panel and use one of those to disable apdproxy.exe from starting at boot.

run at logon - most of which you probably don't need. As well as providing
the usual trouble-shooting options to enable or disable startups, StartMan
