Almost every time I switch off I get a splash screen headed "end program -
explorer.exe" I have to click "end now" to switch off. When I switch on again I have to restore my active desktop. Any ideas how I can track down the error...it is very annoying. Most times I switch on I also get a the ususal desktop except background is white and I am asked if I want to "Restore my Active desktop" Warren |

Please check Event Viewer for Warning / Error Report in the System and Application over the last 2 days and post copies. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...308427&sd=tech Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further information. http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp (Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only) A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. -- Hope this helps. Thanks Gerry,
These are the 2 warnings and errors I am getting: Windows saved user MAIN\Warren registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account. For more information, see Help and Support Center at Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
