If you can boot and use all of your applications - the registry is unlikely to be corrupted. It may have some straggling entries - but not corrupted. While some people do claim to see a slight increase in speed (likely boot speed) if the registry is cleaned of these stragglers - it is caused by poor initial computer maintenance. If you install and uninstall properly when testing applications and keep your machine well maintained - then you will have less of these stragglers and their performance hit will be minimal - very very minimal. If you use an application like ERUNT to backup your registry and the CCLEANER to clean it up some - you will get most of the well known stragglers and might see some (milliseconds?) improvement in some areas. Anything beyond that - well - you shouldn't dive into unless you would dive into it without the many tools that are out there to help you in the registry.. What I mean is "you shouldn't dive blindly into something you do not understand on your production machine.." Again - if your machine is working - applications running - it is unlikely you have a corrupt registry - since that usually results in a dead machine. -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

You will get an Error message or the computer won't work! Learn about error messages. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer. In Event Viewer there is no facility to print Error Reports. A workaround is copy and paste the Error Report into an email, send it to yourself and print off the copy in your Inbox or your Sent Items folder. -- Hope this helps.
