BIOS tells PC to *look* at certain files on root of HD0, i.e. C 2. That makes it read C:\boot.ini 3. That instructs it to *boot* from Disk 1 Partition 1, i.e. H >your boot menu is sending you to HD(1) ie default. Yes, I know. BTW, I'm assuming that is so, although I haven't yet actually gone back to the BIOS during a reboot to check it for sure. Do you know of any utility that can examine BIOS settings while in Windows, or is that logically impossible? >I still insist that WIN XP Home 2 is on "E" drive. >Look at "E" drive!!! >Is there a Windows directory? No. Total contents of E is 292 bytes. As I said, it's a partition still waiting for a copy of XP OS. I'm not sure where that particular boot.ini line came from. I can tell you that on previous occasions that 3rd line was often a duplication of the 2nd. And the Recovery lines are another issue entirely. I added those years ago. -- Terry, West Sussex, UK |

I don't understand why I'm not making sense!!!!
YES: to the following::: I think we are in agreement on this point, but let me check. Are you > saying the following is the sequence of events when I reboot, with my > present settings: > 1. You said you edited the "ini", so that it would boot to "H" drive!!! Why are we still discussing what you HAVE? I thought you wanted to move on!! So install "E" as slave to "H" drive and install Win XP!!! Your boot.ini "may" need edited. Looks like you know how. Make sure you are installing on "H" drive What more do you need? It was pretty simple. You made it real hard. -- Dennis S. I''m from Illinois. I hope I helped you. Good Luck.
