present settings:
1. BIOS tells PC to *look* at certain files on root of HD0, i.e. C
2. That makes it read C:\boot.ini
3. That instructs it to *boot* from Disk 1 Partition 1, i.e. H

BTW, I'm assuming that is so, although I haven't yet actually gone
back to the BIOS during a reboot to check it for sure. Do you know of
any utility that can examine BIOS settings while in Windows, or is
that logically impossible?

No. Total contents of E is 292 bytes. As I said, it's a partition
still waiting for a copy of XP OS.

I'm not sure where that particular boot.ini line came from. I can tell
you that on previous occasions that 3rd line was often a duplication
of the 2nd. And the Recovery lines are another issue entirely. I added
those years ago.

You said you edited the "ini", so that it would boot to "H" drive!!!

Why are we still discussing what you HAVE?

I thought you wanted to move on!!

So install "E" as slave to "H" drive and install Win XP!!!

Your boot.ini "may" need edited. Looks like you know how.
Make sure you are installing on "H" drive

What more do you need?
