SO I was using my computer and I turned it on and low and behold all of
my desktop icons were gone. Later, I discovered that they had been relocated and the only way to get to them was to go back to "my computer" then into "local disk" then into "documents and settings" and then into a file called "administrator". There are also a number new folders all over. when I go into "administrator" I can find all of my old "favorites" for the internet. THen, in "administrators documents" is all of the files that used to be in "my documents". Furthermore, I have tried to reinstall adobe acrobat professional and then it gives me a message "Error 1303. The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Adobe PDF. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator". I cannot enter the "documents" folder listed under C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator. SO what happened? Did some crazy update screw everything up? How do I fix it! Malcolm Malcolm.mccallum@tamut.edu |

Hi
Try using System Restore to restore your Window XP system back to a time when the icons did not disappear and adobe acrobat professional is working. That should fix these problems. Hope this helps you. Egan "Malcolm McCallum" wrote: > SO I was using my computer and I turned it on and low and behold all of > my desktop icons were gone. System Restore is *not* the answer to everything.
When the Desktop Cleanup Wizard runs, it places unused shortcuts into a folder on the desktop called Unused Desktop Shortcuts. However, if you want, these shortcuts can be recovered from this folder. Right-click a blank spot on the desktop, and then click Properties to open the Display Properties dialog box. Click the Desktop tab. Click Customize desktop to open the Desktop Items dialog box. Click to clear the Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard every 60 days check box. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes. ----- A Description of the Desktop Cleanup Wizard http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;293154 HOW TO: Use the Desktop Cleanup Wizard in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;306542 HOW TO: Disable the Automatic Desktop Cleanup Feature in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;320154 -- Hope this helps.
