I backed up my partitioned hard drive....E & F that contain programs and data
using the backup wizard. It put them all in one file that was saved on my external hard drive. Now, after reloading windows, repartioning the hard drive and adding sp 2 again, when trying to restore, an error message says that there is unrecognizable media in the file. Talking to a friend that knows more than myself, he said that maybe because of the program files in there too, it won't restore. I didn't even think of that. So, my question is, is there anyway of going into the backup file and just restoring everything on the F drive, the data? What options do I have? Thanks for the help! |

Use the same program to restore as you did to backup..

If the backups were made using Windows Backup, then Windows Backup is the
program required to access the backups.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User <coal_brona@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1132360771.050670.27520@f14g2000cwb.googlegro ups.com... > Hi, > > I think Active@ uneraser is the most reliable tool to restore data from > DOS. Mike, thanks...but I made the backup with windows backup utility, and trying
to restore using the same windows backup utility. There are some programs that were backed up too, is that going to cause the problem? The programs should make no difference.. it looks like the backup files are
just corrupted.. I say 'just corrupted'.. the only program that I can find on the net that will help you is USD$149.. http://www.e-tech.ca/012-BKFrecovery.asp I have never tried it, so couldn't pass comment.. I have to be honest with you.. I do not like backup files of this kind because of their specialised nature.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User "soling2003" <soling2003@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C66FBE82-BBE5-4D30-A775-49C1E99D817C@microsoft.com... > Mike, thanks...but I made the backup with windows backup utility, and > trying > to restore using the same windows backup utility. Mike,
thanks for the help. I am beginning to not like these programs too! Maybe I'll try a local shop here who maybe can recover them for me. Gary
I remember using Windows Backup while running Win 95.. of course, the backups made were not compatible with Windows 98 Backup even though the programm looked to be exactly the same.. Windows ME backup was not compatible with Win 98 backup, even though Win ME was essentially only a 'media' version of 98.. So, after a few seconds thought, that and the advent of CDRW's, it would be better to just save my stuff in that way, because it is still possible to read the files.. one major advantage is that the files are saved as per the originals, and not hidden in some arcane file type.. Good luck with your quest.. -- Mike Hall MVP - Windows Shell/User "soling2003" <soling2003@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:486CEC02-AB11-40A3-9F4D-0BE9F2D73A05@microsoft.com... > Mike, > thanks for the help.
