Default start up message that xp failed to shut down properly EVERY TIME!

Every time I shut down windows, it seems to shut down fine. Then when I go
to turn on the computer, I first get just a black screen after the BIOS runs.
I turn off the computer again, turn back on , and get the message that
windows failed to shut down properly. This also happens with installing
software that needs to have the system restart to finish installing. Once I
chose start windows normally, everything seems fine. This happened before
and after reinstalling xp. It's irritating and I'd like to fix it. Any
ideas?

Thanks for your help,

Look in the System tab of Event Viewer for Error Reports during the last
Shutdown and reboot and post copies. Also give details of any BSOD (
Blue Screen of Death ) Stop Error messages if they are occurring. When
was the last date when there was no problem? Please mention any changes
of hardware or software made shortly before the problem first arose.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
