Thank you very much for your help, but I need to use my computer NOW so I
think I'll try to re-install Windows, once I'll figure how to do it without
losing my users' data (any advice here?).

I deleted the driver files from Alcohol and Daemon-Tools (sptd, vax, d347b,
d347s) removed the'PnP BIOS Extension', and removed the "conflicting"
services from the registry (stpd, stisvc and netman(scanners and net, I hope
I won't need them ) and everything is still the same. I removed EventSystem
service too, but when I did I got another service problem (one that needed
EventSystem), so I restored it. I only get the EventSystem error now in the
System registry.

I tried to 're-update' again, but it went the same way. Everything gets slow
while searching for devices during the installation.

Yes a reinstall may be the best approach. You can't remove 'COM+ Event
System' it is a core operating system component.
