I've tried to re-install the sp2 for Windows xp. After the first reboot in
the installation, the process went really slow (more than 6 hours in a
Pentium IV 2.4 MHz). Then I had to reboot before starting the configuration.
Now Services.exe process uses 100 percent of the CPU utilization so I have
to change the priority for other processes to be able to do anything (and
only starting in failure safe mode).
I've found that this could happen in Windows 2000, and there is a hotfix for
it, but there's nothing about XP.
And I shouldn't be writing in the English forum , sorry.

Check Event Viewer for errors.

I have read about similar problems related to virtual DVD drives. I had
DAEmon-Tools and Alcohol installed, both with virtual drives disabled. I have
uninstalled Daemon-Tools and Alcohol fails to uninstall (the uninstaller runs
but does nothing), at least while in failsafe mode, but I have booted with
Alcohol controller disabled (Windows asks you about loading it or not while
loading) and the problem is still there.

The system log events would be more interesting.

Thank you for your answers.

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Please do so for each of the different System Log events (that are a Type:
'Error' or 'Warning') since last boot so we can see all of the event detail.

(don't worry about translation)

I've removed Alcohol's SCSI driver from the hardware assistant, but I still
can't uninstall the program. I think sptd is something related to SCSI too.

Update: SPTD is a "Driver used by the CD Rom emulation program, Daemon Tools
Version 4. There have been some reports of problems with this driver."

But I've uninstalled Daemon Tools (without problem) and, as I've said
before, when I restart without loading the driver the problem is still the
same (and the "Plug and Play BIOS" device reports an error in the Hardware
Assistant).

I think I've found something:

(if this doesn't work, try searching for "services.exe" in the forum)

The problem is exactly what is described there, even the "PnP BIOS
Extension" matter, so I'll try some of those solutions, although they are not
very clear.
I had my USB stick plugged while updating like one of those guys, could this
have something to do with it?
