What does Task Manager report on the Performance tab for Total Physical Memory? What is being reported in Control Panel - System - General for total RAM? Ron Martell Duncan B.C. Task Manager says that my total Physical Memory is 2881696K and system
properties says I have 2.75GB. The only thing in the operation system that shows the four g's is when I go to system Information. The AlienWare manufatuer told me that windows would not recognize the other two gigs they put in the system even thought the computer handals it. They just dont know why. I do know that some aspects of Windows can report the incorrect amount of RAM under some circumstances. However it has been my experience that the figure reported in Control Panel - System - General is always accurate, and it is the other places (Task Manager, System Information, etc) that can sometimes be incorrect. Running Windows XP with the maximum 4 gb is a bit of a grey area and I have no hands-on experience with systems with that amount of RAM. I do know that there are some issues with it that sometimes require the use of a "/3gb" parameter in the boot.ini file but the specific circumstances where this is needed, the consequences of not doing so, and the proper way to implement this parameter in Windows XP have not yet been fully documented, at least insofar as I am aware.
