Default What to do with $NtUninstallKBnnnnnn$ files in C:/.../Windows fold

There are 42 folders in my c:/.../WINDOWS folder titled
"$NtUninstallKBnnnnnn$" where the n's are a sequence of numbers. Each of
these folders have one subfolder titled "spuninst". Are these redundant and
can I remove them from my c-drive?

Those folders were created when an update to Windows was
installed. If you delete the folder you will not be able to
uninstall the update. A good rule of thumb is to wait a couple
of weeks, see how your system reacts to the update and then
delete the folder if everything's running OK.

Do not delete the folder named $hf_mig$.

Those are the uninstall files for the installed updates and they can be
safely deleted:

Exactly right. Note that a good way to delete them when ready is to use the
utility from http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm
It will also automatically remove them from the Control Panel Add/Remove
listing (otherwise you have to select to uninstall each and answer a prompt
to remove from the list.).

In order to remove them from the "Add/Remove Program" list, you also can go
to the registry entries in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

and delete the KBnnnnnn entries there also.
