Hi Val,
I too wish to uninstall Norton System Works 2005 because it appears to be such a resource hog and there is virtually no support. Might you have any tips for a complete and safe removal of NSW2005 from a Windows XP Pro SP2 PC? - Peter Sale "VManes" wrote: > Yes, the Norton/Symantec prodcuts are a pale imitation of what they once > were ( I loved Norton Untilites 4.5 - that was Golden!) This is not an unusual request.Symantec has the bad habit of placing files
everywhere on the hard drives. First run the add/remove module to get the removal going. After that go to the directory where norton has resided and manually delete the remaining files and the directory. Then run a manual search on all drives if you have more than one to find any remnants of symantec or norton files and delete them. Then run a registry cleaner to locate any remaining norton/symantec keys and delete them. I suggest you defrag the drive where norton/symantec sat to definitely get rid of them. Also check for a module called "live update" and "Live registration" and delete them either using the add/remove module or do it manually. A big job but worth it to clean out the garbage. I must admit the I still have Partition Magic and WinFax Pro on my machine so I had to be very careful when deleting NSW from my machine. Go slow and perhaps backup before you begin. Good luck. For some reason months after removing NAVS an occasional message appertaining to NAVS would appear or a an empty folder was discovered. I don't know if I did the right thing (the restore was probably required for other reasons) but it did seem to reduce a bit of the NAVS peskiness IMO |
