Default Slow Bootup

My system is really slow to boot up, any idea how I remove some of the
startup files that have built up over the last year?

I have removed the few that were in "doc's and settings" startup folder..
did not make much difference..

How do you know which "startup files" to remove? And what makes you think
"startup files" are the problem in the first place?

I took a look at process manager and watched the processes loading up during
startup... loads of stuff like Itunes helper, msn messenger, etc.. loading
up, etc. etc. since they load up sequentially and not in parrallel thought
this might be the problem... loads of free memory and disc space left so not
sure that's it..

Is CCC enabled or it's equivalent (look for lots of CLI.exe in task manager)

If so, do you use Catalyst? Or is it ornamental?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Look in Event Viewer at the System and Application logs for Warning or
Error report and post a copy here You can access Event Viewer by
selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message(email) and do a paste into the body of the
message. This will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report
complete with links into the message. Make sure this is the first paste
after exiting from Event Viewer.

Any Norton or McAfee products?

Hope this helps.

Steve I know it doesn't help your porblem, but I am having the same problem
right now with a Viao. It has run well for a year and now every now and then
boot up will be slow and CPU is at 100%. I have run Norton Anti Virus and
Adaware a couple of times with no out of the ordinary results. I bought
another 514M of RAM bringing me up to over 1G (960) after graphics card.
Same opperation however. It especially seems to happen if I try to multi
task. If I open a couple of browser windows or big programs it goes straight
to 100%. This only started about 2 weeks ago. I notice the problem most
iwth the following programs
Poker.com (more than 1 game open)
Firefox Browser (multi windows or tabs)
Internet Explorer (muti window)
Yahoo Stat tracker for fantasy football with another window open.
my wife recently installed SIMS 2 Nightlife.
I also run Zone Alarm.
Maybe this will help you a little to see what someone else has done. Please
let me know if you have done anthing else.
