Default IE stops responding

Lately, everytime I try to log-on to some sites, especially AT&T boards, IE
stops responding.

I tried re-installing it, sfc /scannow, and ran CHKDSK from My Computer, but
it still doing it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Laurent

Another browser would be an option, not a solution for IE problems. I really
do need to use IE.

Are you using AT&T software to connect?

Laurent,
Are the websites, on which this problem occurs, secured websites?

No, I had that problem but solved it. The problem now happens only while
running AT&T dial-up software - sometimes IE or OE will start like they are
supposed to, sometimes they won't, nor will any other program, for about
three minutes, then, all of a sudden, everything you clicked on comes up in
the screen, after that, everything will continue working at normal speed.

I created and deleted a couple user accounts before I got the secure sites
problem fixed, it's been having this new problem ever since. I talked to an
AT&T tech. and she said there must be a program working in the background
using too much of my resources, and asked me to remove the most recently
added programs, which I did - removed Spy Sweeper, Previx and Ewidos (trial
version) - and it seemed to be back to normal for a whole day, then it went
bad again.

And it's still bad.

Laurent,
"I talked to an AT&T tech. and she said there must be a program working in
the background using too much of my resources"

She may have been right, well, to an extent. To check whether a particular
program is causing this behaviour you can open the task manager(right click
on an empty part of the taskbar and click on task manager). Now under the
processes tab check for the program taking maximum cpu time and post the
results here.

Another thing you can try is to first open the internet explorer and then
open the outlook express. Then try the reverse process ie first OE and then
internet explorer. Tell me at which point in both the instances does the
computer get stuck. My guess (in both instances) while opening IE. But let's
see.

Hope this helps,
yogi
